Soumik Datta
Multi-talented British-Indian musician, composer and Aga Khan Music Award Winner, Soumik Datta performs on the impressive 19-stringed fretless sarod. As a fervent champion of the preservation of Indian arts, Datta strives to bring this ancient Indian stringed instrument to new audiences on a global scale.
In this recital, Datta presents his audio-visual project Mone Rekho (meaning ‘remember’ in Bengali) which weaves Indian music with electronic sounds, visual collages, cinematic scenes and bursts of comedy. Initiated in collaboration with Alzheimer’s Society, and inspired by conversations with people living with dementia, Mone Rekho is an immersive concert about memory, music and the human mind.
Savour the skills of this inspired virtuoso in a ground-breaking performance that fuses Indian traditional music with contemporary composition and storytelling.
