Philharmonia Orchestra Residency: Family Concert
Festival Director Nicola Benedetti performs a mesmerising violin solo in a classical programme that explores the animal kingdom
Some of the
world’s best classical music pieces are inspired by the animal kingdom. Ralph
Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending is no exception; the soaring
violin solo represents the movements of the skylark.
Children, and their grown-ups, are invited to encounter a classical programme that playfully explores how composers are drawn to portraying animals of all shapes and sizes in their music.
In collaboration with the Philharmonia, Festival Director Nicola Benedetti is the solo violinist in this relaxed, family-friendly performance of Vaughan Williams’s masterpiece alongside beloved classics.
The Family concert is also live captioned and BSL interpreted by deaf musician Paul Whittaker, who will interpret the pieces of music as well as spoken text.
Arrive early at Usher Hall to enjoy a pop-up performance from Dunbar voices (Youth choir) at 1.30–2.30pm.
