Magdalena Kožená & Yefim Bronfman
The long-time artistic partners explore songs of love, longing and innocence by Bartók, Mussorgsky and Brahms.
Two of today’s most perceptive, authoritative musicians come together in a thrilling song recital of romance, wit and bucolic idyll.
Czech-born mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená is one of the world’s pre-eminent vocalists, celebrated not only for the flickering colours and mercurial moods conveyed in her deeply expressive voice, but also the blistering insights she brings to her performances.
Israeli-American pianist Yefim Bronfman is a towering figure in keyboard playing, as a concerto soloist, chamber musician and recitalist, capable of tremendous power but also beguiling tenderness in his playing, shot through with a visionary intellect.
Kožená and Bronfman have been regular recital partners for many years, and bring together Romantic Lieder by Brahms, Mussorgsky’s visions of childhood in The Nursery, the biting wit of Shostakovich’s Satires, and the rustic rawness of Bartók’s Village Scenes, based on folk songs from Slovakia.
