Ilumina Residency: In the Light of Shadow
BEANBAG CONCERT SERIES
The São Paulo-based artist collective takes on an eclectic array of compositions, spanning French baroque to Afro-samba.
Ilumina, the São Paulo-based artist collective, was founded by the American violist Jennifer Stumm. It has quickly become a model for 21st century creativity and the advancement of diverse talent. Uniting leading soloists with gifted young musicians from Latin America, it nurtures rising artists and gives them a chance to shine.
In their first visit to the International Festival, Ilumina is joined by the violinist Alina Ibragimova and Stumm herself as violist. The programme brings together masterpieces by Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Richard Wagner, the baroque joys of Jean-Baptiste Lully, György Kurtág’s imaginative flair and, from South America, the irresistible warmth of Heitor Villa-Lobos and Baden Powell.
With the seats removed from the stalls area, you’re invited to relax on beanbags to absorb this voyage through an eclectic selection of great music.
Buy standard price tickets for both Ilumina concerts at Usher Hall and get 20% off. Excludes concessions and top-price tickets, more details over on Booking Info.
Supported by Sir Ewan and Lady Brown and Consulate General of Brazil in Edinburgh and Instituto Guimarães Rosa
