AT HOME: Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra – Edinburgh is a Story
Watch the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra's historic performance of Beethoven's 'Abscheulicher, komm Hoffnung', recorded in the Scottish Parliament Building.
Light up my goal, however far, Through love I shall still reach it.
The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra is formed of leading Ukrainian musicians from inside the embattled country, as well as recent refugees and Ukrainian members of European orchestras coming together to demonstrate the power of art over adversity. In this recording, they perform 'Abscheulicher, komm Hoffnung' from Beethoven's opera Fidelio, a hopeful song about the power of faithfulness and love. The performance takes place in the Scottish Parliament Building, reflecting Edinburgh's position as a twinned city of Kyiv.
This performance is the fourth in our series of short films Edinburgh is a Story, produced by Glasgow-based production company Forest of Black. The films come together to create a beautiful journey through the city. Each is filmed in an iconic Edinburgh location and creates an intimate portrait of an artist featured in this year’s Festival.
Edinburgh is a Story is part of our At Home series in partnership with abrdn. Find out more about At Home.
