Trojan Women
Euripides’ classic Greek tragedy is breathtakingly reimagined by 25 singers, actors and musicians in this epic production from the National Changgeuk Company of Korea. The cherished art of pansori (Korean folk opera) creates a stunning whirlwind of music, dance and theatre.
Set after the sacking of Troy, the Trojan women are left at the mercy of their Greek captors. They are forced to contemplate the loss of their home and people, even as hallways and chambers of their royal palace echo with the final footsteps of their impending doom.
Heralded as a visionary director, Ong Keng Sen is famed for his retellings of European classics through Asian performance styles. K-pop producer and Parasite film score composer Jung Jae-il has collaborated with renowned pansori master Ahn Sook-sun to create the original music.
Fused with inspiration from spirituals, blues and jazz, Trojan Women is a lyrical and emotional portrait of female resilience.
