São Paulo Symphony Orchestra
Solo violinist Roman Simovic accompanies the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra to perform a selection of virtuoso showpieces.
The multi-award-winning violinist Roman Simovic arrives at the International Festival to perform with São Paulo Symphony Orchestra – an orchestra that is known synonymously with Brazilian musical culture.
In this concert he performs two solos, starting with the virtuoso showpiece Carmen Fantasy by Pablo Sarasate. Inspired by themes of Georges Bizet’s opera, Carmen Fantasy showcases adaptations from the very best of the score; including the instantly identifiable aria Habanera, Seguidilla (an old Spanish folksong).
Then, Simovic performs the Violin Concerto by Alberto Ginastera, one of Argentina’s most celebrated composers. Finally, Thierry Fischer conducts the internationally renowned orchestra in Richard Strauss’s sublime Alpine Symphony, which structurally emulates a mountain climb in the Bavarian Alps.
Supported by Dunard Fund and Consulate General of Brazil in Edinburgh and Instituto Guimarães Rosa with additional support from Embassy of Switzerland in the United Kingdom
