Preview Night: Breabach

Scottish Highland and Island musical traditions collide with brand-new compositions by folk band Breabach.

The five-piece folk band Breabach unites Scottish Highland and Island musical traditions with brand-new compositions. The multi-instrumentalists perform on an eclectic menagerie of instruments, from the bouzouki (a long-necked lute from Greece) to the cajón (a Peruvian box drum), and the bagpipes to the whistle.

To date, Breabach has released seven acclaimed albums and their latest album Fàs paved the way for the band to receive the title of ‘Folk Band of the Year’ at the 2022 Scots Trad Music Awards. Fàs means ‘growth’ in Gaelic, which resonates with the sources of inspiration for the album, including that of the Scottish wilderness and natural environment.

Over 18 years, Breabach has performed everywhere from Sydney Opera House to Central Park, New York. The Highland folk legends return to the International Festival with an exhilarating performance.
