Moses Boyd
One of the central characters of the vibrant new London jazz scene, multi-award-winning artist and producer Moses Boyd brings his genre-crossing fusion of jazz improvisation and dancefloor beats to Edinburgh.
After previously producing tracks on Beyoncé’s soundtrack for the 2019 remake of Disney’s The Lion King and teaming up for projects with Sons of Kemet, Soweto Kinch and Four Tet, accomplished London jazz drummer and producer Moses Boyd released his debut solo album Dark Matter last year – and was promptly shortlisted for the Mercury Award.
Blending UK grime with afrobeat, jungle and jazz stylings, Dark Matter was a thrilling blur of Black music from the global diaspora that draws as much from the legacy of Miles Davis as it does from Dizzee Rascal. A freewheeling record of dancefloor crossover and London underground club sounds, the album made a memorable statement from a gifted young artist, boldly weaving together different genres. A songwriter, composer and bandleader, Boyd’s energetic live shows are always a joy for the feet as well as the head.
