Exploring Tannhäuser at The Hub
Join us at The Hub to delve into the music and story of Richard Wagner’s opera Tannhäuser, ahead of its concert performance at the Usher Hall.
Richard Wagner’s romantic opera Tannhäuser is the only one of his major operas never to have been performed at the International Festival. On the evening of 25th August, Deutsche Oper Berlin performs a concert version of the opera at the Usher Hall.
The opera contains some of Wagner’s greatest writing for chorus, along with outstanding solo numbers. American rising star tenor Clay Hilley performs the title role, joined by a cast of international opera singers.
Come by The Hub in the afternoon before the concert for a deep dive into the music, story and context of the opera. Panellists include Elaine Kelly, Professor of Music at the University of Edinburgh and Christoph Seuferle, Director of Opera at Deutsche Oper Berlin.
The Hub is supported by Sir Ewan and Lady Brown together with Flure Grossart.
The Hub Talks are supported by The University of Edinburgh.
