Budapest Festival Orchestra: A Model for the Future

Join Festival Director Nicola Benedetti in conversation with orchestra founder-conductor Iván Fischer, before a special performance showcasing the orchestra’s warmth, versatility and creativity.

The Budapest Festival Orchestra is one of a kind – like its founder-conductor Iván Fischer, it is uniquely adventurous. Together, they seek new ways to spotlight music and musicians and to involve audiences in groundbreaking projects.

In a discussion with Festival Director Nicola Benedetti, Iván Fischer explores how the orchestra could be a model for orchestras of the future. They discuss a world in which musicians can switch effortlessly between musical styles.

Several ensembles of orchestra members each give a short performance. Expect a selection from Monteverdi’s Scherzi Musicali, with part of the orchestra singing as a chorus and another playing on period instruments. There’s a trio of folk musicians in traditional music from Transylvania, and a Klezmer band, playing the Jewish folk music of eastern Europe.

You can enjoy the performance from a beanbag or a seat.

Supported by Sir Ewan and Lady Brown
