Anne Sofie von Otter
The Swedish mezzo soprano performs a concert that blends music by Schubert and singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright.
Swedish mezzo soprano Anne Sofie von Otter is one of the most respected singers of her generation, celebrated across the world’s opera stages and concert halls for the precision and care of her performances, and the sweetness of her voice. Her passions stretch beyond classical music, however, and she has previously collaborated with artists including singer-songwriter Elvis Costello and jazz pianist Brad Mehldau.
She is joined by the pianist Christoph Berner and the Quatuor Van Kuijk for a concert blending music by Schubert and iconic singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, also the composer of two operas.
Using the movements of Schubert’s powerful Death and the Maiden Quartet as a connecting thread, von Otter, Berner and the quartet chart a compelling journey through love and death, bringing together new songs and instrumental pieces by Wainwright with selections from Schubert’s gripping song-cycle Winterreise.
