Anna Meredith
International Festival favourite Anna Meredith returns to Edinburgh to perform her second album accompanied by her live band.
After winning the 2016 Scottish Album of the Year award for her debut Varmints, Meredith’s latest release FIBS is a bright crossover of pop and orchestral tropes. Featuring synthesisers, electric guitar, cello, timpani, tuba and wooden xylophone, Meredith sings and plays numerous instruments on the album – occasionally smashing a cymbal or giving her audience a sudden rush of rich, energetic symphonies.
Meredith composed the music for the International Festival’s 2018 opening spectacle Five Telegrams, where a crowd of thousands gathered to watch rainbow visuals projected onto the façade of the Usher Hall. The classical composer and avant-pop artist then performed a totally different but equally colourful live set the following week at Leith Theatre alongside the Southbank Sinfonia.
...brilliantly unpredictable
