A native of Oregon, the American soprano Amber Wagner has been featured in Opera News as one of twenty-five artists poised to break out and become a major force in classical music in the coming decade. In a recent review of Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Times described her as possessing a ‘powerful, gleaming and richly expressive voice [which] was ideal for the music.’
She made her UK debut at the 2017 International Festival performing the role of Sieglinde in Die Walküre and she will perform the role of Gutrune in the much-anticipated finale of the Ring cycle, Götterdämmerung, on 25 August. Previous appearances include Minnesota Opera, Prague State Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Oper Frankfurt.
She is accompanied by Edinburgh-born Malcolm Martineau, for a rich recital of works by Strauss, Barber and Wagner.
Please note that this concert replaces a previously advertised Christine Goerke recital. Ms Goerke had to withdraw from the concert for personal reasons.
