Programme to include works by Weber, Brahms, Schubert, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Debussy, Chopin and Horowitz

Two of classical music’s most charismatic, fiery talents launch The Queen’s Hall series in spectacular style.

The Berlin Philharmonic’s principal clarinettist, Andreas Ottensamer is also a deeply expressive soloist, delivering inquisitive, insightful interpretations. Chinese piano sensation Yuja Wang – who also joins the Los Angeles Philharmonic on 4 August – is one of the world’s most formidable, brilliant keyboard talents.

Their wide-ranging programme is designed to delight and astound, from the dreamlike opulence of Debussy’s Première rhapsodie to the sublime brilliance of Weber’s Grand duo concertant, by way of Joseph Horovitz’s foot-tapping, jazz-inspired Sonatina. In between, Ottensamer’s own arrangements of some of Mendelssohn’s gloriously tuneful Songs Without Words, and Vladimir Horowitz’s glittering piano showpiece based on Bizet’s Carmen.
