Kate Tempest
The poet, rapper, novelist and playwright makes her International Festival debut.
Born and bred in south east London, poet, rapper, novelist and playwright Kate Tempest is one of the UK’s most innovative and celebrated artists. Occupying a space between slam poetry and rap, she has twice been nominated for the Mercury Prize, as well as winning multiple literary prizes for her poetry and novels. Melding dazzlingly complex rhyme patterns with post-dubstep electronic beats, her music is as influenced by James Joyce and the Greek Myths as it is by Wu-Tang Clan and the streets of London. Her two studio albums, 2014’s Everybody Down and 2016’s Let Them Eat Chaos, are both rich in characters and concept, with songs that seamlessly moving between multiple narrators and locations.
