Boards of Canada’s ‘Hi Scores’
André de Ridder conducts s t a r g a z e for a re-imagining of Hi Scores by Boards of Canada as part of Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside.
Berlin-based classical collective, s t a r g a z e have teamed up with an extraordinary mix of musical talents over the years; Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, The Magnetic North, Julia Holter, Nils Frahm, Matthew Herbert and many more. They are turning their focus to Scotland this time, to pay a very special homage to Boards of Canada, the Edinburgh brothers, Mike Sandison and Marcus Eoin. Their sublime ambient electronic symphonies soundtracked much of the 90s and 00s, and their debut album Music Has the Right to Children celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. s t a r g a z e’s performance at Leith Theatre will revisit an even earlier work from their back catalogue, the blissed out six-track EP, ‘Hi Scores’, first released by Manchester label Skam Records in 1996, with one of the tracks, ‘Turquoise Hexagon Sun’ making its way onto their first album. Fans will find much to love in this large scale, orchestral interpretation of a true modern classic.
