Neu! Reekie! #1
Neu! Reekie! #1
A special evening at the International Festival from Neu! Reekie! as part of Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside at Leith Theatre.
Avant-garde collective Neu! Reekie! have been busy feeding and nurturing an exciting grassroots scene in Edinburgh since 2011, and they’re bringing a typically delicious, eclectic and iconoclastic line-up to the International Festival with this triple threat of international talent.
Lydia Lunch is a post-punk feminist who emerged from New York’s 1970s No Wave scene and describes herself as a “one-woman protest machine” with a wicked sense of humour.
Edinburgh art-punks The Fire Engines made their first DIY single in a Fife bungalow for £46 in 1980, and burned brightly for a year before breaking up and reforming in 2004.
German krautrock legend, Michael Rother was a founding member of Neu! and a member of Kraftwerk and Harmonia before releasing solo albums of his own beautiful, cosmic jams.
The Edinburgh-based Honey Farm formed in spring 2016, after growing up together in the sticks around East Lothian. They have since packed out tents and stages Scotland, from Kelburn Garden Party, Audio Soup and Grrrl Crush to BBC The Social’s Rappers VS Poets in August 2017.
This powerful tetraptych of sonic, artistic pioneers that reminds us that Edinburgh’s grassroots musical landscape is still alive and kicking, and usually punching too.
