Karine Polwart's Scottish Songbook
Karine Polwart performs a soundtrack of seminal Scottish pop songs live as part of Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside at Leith Theatre.
Scottish folk singer-songwriter Karine Polwart has a knack of delivering sucker punches in the gentlest, subtlest of ways. Returning to the International Festival after her serene but powerful debut Wind Resistance sold out in 2016, this year’s Scottish Songbook will breathe fresh meaning and life into folk songs that have been around for centuries. Karine will dig into her all-time favourite Scottish pop songs from the past fifty years, and explore the special musical landscape that she grew up in. From childhood memories of her mum’s Donovan and Gerry Rafferty LPs, through her young love of Big Country, Annie Lennox and The Blue Nile, she’ll also revisit maverick innovators like Bert Jansch and John Martyn, and celebrate current bands like Frightened Rabbit and Chvrches. Karine is joined onstage by a brilliant 6-piece band featuring Admiral Fallow’s lead singer and guitarist, Louis Abbott for a joyful evening of Scottish music gems.
