Winner of the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year award, 19-year old Sheku Kanneh-Mason become the highest charting cellist in official album chart history with his album, Inspiration, after he performed at St George’s Chapel while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed the marriage register. He joins the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for Elgar’s contemplative and elegiac Cello Concerto.
Acclaimed conductor Ludovic Morlot opens this vibrant concert with the brooding power of Stravinsky’s sonorous Funeral Song and concludes with Ravel’s lavish Daphnis et Chloé – featuring the Edinburgh Festival Chorus.
