Berlioz's Roméo et Juliette

Idiosyncratic, compelling and thoroughly entertaining, Roméo et Juliette is Hector Berlioz’s very personal take on Shakespeare’s great romantic tragedy, conveyed in sparkling arias, evocative choruses and exotic orchestral movements that demonstrate the great French composer’s highly individual genius.

A starry cast of international soloists – revered Czech mezzo soprano Magdalena Kožená, as well as acclaimed US tenor Kenneth Tarver and Canadian bass John Relyea – join the Edinburgh Festival Chorus and Scottish Chamber Orchestra, under Principal Conductor Robin Ticciati, for Berlioz’s remarkable choral symphony.

Ticciati made his name as one of today’s most exciting young conductors in part with his sharply focused, colourful Berlioz performances with the SCO, high on fantasy, with a keen dramatic commitment and in which every detail counts.
