Russian National Orchestra 1
Famed for its gleaming sonic power and impeccable finesse, the Russian National Orchestra has quickly soared to become one of the world’s finest orchestras since its founding by eminent Russian pianist and conductor Mikhail Pletnev in 1990.
Following two celebrated concerts at the 2013 International Festival, the Orchestra returns for a two-evening residency in the Usher Hall, with Paul Lewis and Denis Matsuev as soloists in two contrasting piano concertos, and with a strong focus on the colourful, passionate music of its Russian homeland.
Under dynamic young Ukrainian conductor Kirill Karabits, the Orchestra presents Tchaikovsky’s joyful ‘Little Russian’ Symphony, a high-spirited romp through some of the country’s folk tunes. Karabits opens the concert with two irresistibly foot-tapping numbers from Musorgsky’s rustic opera Sorochinsky Fair.
Please note, Mikhail Pletnev will not now perform with the Russian National Orchestra due to an injury to his shoulder. We are extremely grateful to Paul Lewis who will take his place.
The Russian National Orchestra is a fantastic music machine.... seamlessly textured, supremely balanced and astoundingly virtuosic.
