Mark Padmore is one of Britain’s most accomplished tenors, as at home on the opera stage as he is in recital, and prized for his scrupulous musicianship and intense interpretations. He is joined by Kristian Bezuidenhout, generally considered the leading fortepianist of his generation for his inspired, crisp playing.

They perform heart-rending songs by Beethoven, from the touching Goethe settings Mailied and Neue Liebe, neues Leben to the larger-scale An die ferne Geliebte, in which Beethoven conveys his feelings of sensual passion and unfulfilled desire to his ‘distant beloved.’

They close their recital with Schubert’s monumental Schwanengesang, a cycle of 14 songs depicting a despairing man tormented by his lost love that takes the listener on a profound emotional journey.
