Tallis Scholars
Balancing brilliance and sheer sonic beauty, and hugely respected for their championing of exquisite but little-known early choral music under founding Director Peter Phillips, the Tallis Scholars are one of the UK’s most accomplished choral groups.
Music by Tallis, Sheppard and Arvo Pärt
Following their widely acclaimed Festival performance exploring Renaissance choral music in 2014, their 2015 Festival recital contrasts the rich Tudor polyphony of Thomas Tallis’s evocative Sancte Deus and John Sheppard’s powerfully expressive Media vita with the radiant simplicity of Arvo Pärt’s Nunc dimittis (originally written for the Choir of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh) and the mystical Triodion, composed in memory of Benjamin Britten.
