Sufjan Stevens

To celebrate the release of his forth coming album Carrie & Lowell, Sufjan Stevens will play a special European tour date at the Edinburgh International Festival.

Carrie & Lowell was recorded by Stevens alongside Casey Foubert, Laura Veirs, Nedelle Torrisi, Sean Carey, Ben Lester and Thomas Bartlett. The eleven songs address life and death, love and loss, and the artist’s struggle to make sense of the beauty and ugliness of love. The album is named for Stevens’s mother and stepfather and is a return to his folk roots.

The concert will begin with support from Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear at 8.00pm. The venue will open 60 minutes prior to the support act.

On his most emotionally draining album, he joins Nick Drake and Elliott Smith in the canon of artists who channel suicidal thoughts into impossibly pretty songs.

The Rolling Stone

Stevens remains at the height of his powers — capable of work as individual, compassionate and powerful as any American composer working today.
