US-based pianist Yefim Bronfman is one of the most commanding, influential pianists performing today, and he is the soloist is Bartók’s magical Third Piano Concerto, combining serene spiritual reflection and unforgettable earthy melodies. The same composer’s blazing ballet score The Miraculous Mandarin opens the concert with vivid, provocative storytelling and some of the composer’s grandest music.

Gergiev closes the performance with the unstoppable rhythms and searing orchestral colours of Stravinsky’s history-changing The Rite of Spring.
