Philharmonia Orchestra

Celebrating 30 years of revelatory performances, the Philharmonia Orchestra and its powerful Principal Conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen have one of the most celebrated and fruitful relationships in the classical world.

Esa-Pekka Salonen Conductor

Pierre-Laurent Aimard Piano

Ravel Mother Goose Suite
Ravel Piano Concerto in G
Stravinsky Petrushka (1947)
Tchaikovsky Francesca da Rimini

For the first of their two Festival concerts, Salonen brings a brightly coloured programme of music he has long loved and admired.

Please note: Lang Lang has had to withdraw from the concert due to illness. He has a severe ear infection and, on advice of doctors, is unable to fly.

Pierre-Laurent Aimard has very kindly agreed to perform in this concert at very short notice. In a change from the advertised programme, he will perform Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G. The Philharmonia Orchestra will open the concert with a performance of Ravel’s Mother Goose Suite and the rest of the programme remains unchanged.

Lang Lang is very much hoping to be well enough to travel in time to make his scheduled recital debut at the Festival on Friday 21 August.
