Sol Gabetta | Bertrand Chamayou

Sensuous yet full of searing insights, and often providing bracingly fresh perspectives on well-loved music, Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta’s playing is admired worldwide for its passion and intense lyricism.

Sol Gabetta Cello
Bertrand Chamayou Piano

Beethoven Variations in E flat on ‘Bei Männern, welche Liebe fühlen’
Mendelssohn Cello Sonata No 2 in D
Chopin Cello Sonata in G minor
Chopin Grand Duo concertant sur des thèmes de Robert le diable

Sol Gabetta joins regular recital partner, French pianist Bertrand Chamayou – a respected soloist in his own right – for a vivid programme that contrasts Beethoven’s affectionate tribute to Mozart in his melodious Variations on ‘Bei Männern, welche Liebe Fühlen’ from The Magic Flute, with two stormy sonatas: Mendelssohn’s passionate, potent Second Cello Sonata, full of dramatic tensions, and Chopin’s beautifully crafted and deeply personal Cello Sonata in G minor.

This concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3
