Sarah Connolly | Malcolm Martineau
Songs and Lieder by Schoenberg, Zemlinsky, Debussy, Poulenc, Korngold, Strauss and Eisler.
Sarah Connolly Mezzo soprano
Malcolm Martineau Piano
One of Britain’s finest singers, mezzo soprano Sarah Connolly is respected worldwide for her deeply expressive, burnished voice and the simmering passions of her sensual performances.
Joined by acclaimed Edinburgh-born pianist Malcolm Martineau, she brings together a selection of songs from Germany and France for her Festival recital. Debussy’s erotic Chansons de Bilitis evoke a hedonistic world of myth and mysticism, while Poulenc’s luxuriant Banalités are both witty and wistful. She completes the programme with Lieder including Richard Strauss’s richly emotional ‘Sehnsucht’ and ‘Die Nacht’, as well as the colourful, passionate Six Maeterlinck Songs by Zemlinsky.
This concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3
