Arcanto Quartet

Each of its players an eminent soloist in their own right – violinists Antje Weithaas and Daniel Sepec, violist Tabea Zimmermann and cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras – the remarkable Arcanto Quartet has risen rapidly since its founding in 2002 to a position as one of the world’s outstanding ensembles.

Purcell Fantasias
Britten String Quartet No 3
Schubert String Quartet in G

The quartet make a welcome return to the Festival with a typically eclectic programme, contrasting the effortless melody of Schubert’s gloriously expansive G major Quartet, D887, with Britten’s touchingly lyrical, Venice-inspired Third Quartet. They open the concert with a selection of elegant Baroque Fantasias by Purcell.
