All Rise – A Joyful Elegy for Fats Waller | Jason Moran

A heartfelt and affectionate take on the music of Fats Waller, the ebullient, larger-than-life pianist, singer and comic genius whose music acted as a door that opened straight onto the 1930s dance floor.

All Rise pays tribute to a rich history, while introducing a contemporary edge through vocal versions of Waller’s songs that connect to today’s soul and R&B styles, and through Moran’s heady fusion of stride-piano stomp, free-improvisation and harmonic sophistication.
