Schumann’s tender yet powerful music is the ideal match for Uchida’s captivating playing. His Waldszenen (‘Forest Scenes’) offer a richly Romantic view of the natural world, and his Second Piano Sonata is a tempestuous, virtuosic piece. Uchida ends her concert with the spiritual beauty of the touching Gesänge der Frühe (‘Songs of Dawn’).
