Arcangelo & Iestyn Davies
Exciting young period-instrument ensemble Arcangelo makes its International Festival debut with the acclaimed countertenor Iestyn Davies.
Handel and Porpora were two great rival composers in the 18th century, the former supported by King George II and the latter by his son, Frederick, Prince of Wales. Both composers strove for ever greater feats of expression, as displayed in the simmering passions of their chamber cantatas performed today. Their extraordinarily taxing vocal parts were designed to show off the solo singer’s virtuosity and subtlety.
