Elias (Elijah)

Elias (Elijah)

About the Performance

Mendelssohn's final oratorio is an extremely dramatic and vivid portrait of the Biblical prophet Elijah. The energy in the music, the inspired orchestration and sheer beauty of many of the arias make it one of classical music's most popular works. Although often performed in English it was originally written in German, as performed here.

Artistic Director of the orchestra and choruses, Philippe Herreweghe, leads them together with a line-up of stellar soloists in an evening of stirring music-making.

'Never was there a more complete triumph; never a more thorough and speedy recognition of a great work of art.' The Times on the 1846 premiere of Elijah
